October 2009:

Welcome to our 2009 Retreat to southern Africa.  Originally we thought we were going to go back to South America, reunite with friends and our motorcycle in Buenos Aires, and travel north through Bolivia and Peru up to Ecuador.  That is, up until recently....

As we’ve done much of the South American route years before, we decided in September to ship the bike to Cape Town, South Africa, and spend a couple of months checking out the sites, sounds, and (especially) the animals of southern Africa. 

After a stop in New York to visit family, we arrived in Cape Town on Nov 23rd and picked up the bike on the 24th, then...

We didn’t really have a "plan" when we started, but the rough idea was to head north up to Namibia (desert and dunes), visit Etosha NP (animal reserve), then over to the Okavango Delta (Botswana), and back down to Cape Town.  Basically covering the western portion of southern Africa.  Once we started, an idea began brewing and the trip was modified to include Victoria Falls in Zimbabwe, then passing through Swaziland, followed by the eastern and southern coast of South Africa.

In November (2010), we'll take another 2 months to ride from Cape Town, up through Mozambique, to Malawi and Tanzania....
